For high school writers, especially juniors and seniors, Language Is a Virus is a great source for out-of-the-box, make-you-think writing prompts, plus plenty of games to break writer’s block: http://www.languageisavirus.com The Letter Link Poetry game is like an online Boggle; I used it to help students generate a word list for writing sonnets.

For upper elementary through high school, these Visual Writing Prompts are super fun: http://visualprompts.weebly.com/grade.html

Actively Learn is a great website to have students interacting with texts. You can upload a text from ReadWorks, NewsELA, CommonLit or another of your favorite site for articles and embed questions throughout. Students answer the questions and give feedback to each other. As a teacher you receive real-time data and can provide feedback back to your students. There are free and paid accounts, but the free account gives you a lot of access. You just simply have to create logins for your students.

      Check it out at: https://read.activelylearn.com/account.html#/
