The Educators’ Cooperative operates with the mission of working “together in an active community of support and development with other like-minded professionals who work in classrooms of all kinds. Together, we create the time and space for teachers from all sectors to collaborate and share best practices in teaching and learning, and nurture a professional community of educators on behalf of all of Nashville’s students.” This goal drives organizational decisions and growth, showing EdCo’s dedication to students and teachers not only in Nashville, but across the state.
In a series of interviews, Amy Nystrand, EdCo’s Program Director asked teachers, why did you join EdCo? The answers given were evidence of the mission driven work being done.
Amber Thienel: “I’ve made so many connections with people. It truly is a networking tool in the best way possible. EdCo totally fits my personality, it’s exactly how I see education, it is a way to connect to people and share ideas and learn from each other.”
Amy Noon: “ It was a safe space to say things and to have a conversation about lots of different topics. What is really great is that you could pick and choose the topics that you felt were going to benefit you the most on any particular day.”
Ada Collins: “I was switching from one school to another school, so I didn’t feel like I had that teacher community or that professional community that I could rely on and connect with, so I think that was a huge draw for me.”
